Purpose: To recognize a distinguished person who has contributed to advancing the spirit of good government and improving the quality of public affairs for our state and nation. Ideally, the recipient should have a demonstrated connection to the University and the Institute. The recipient should be a leader in the community with a sustained record of achievement and accomplishments that contribute to improving the quality of life of their community. The recipient shall be honored at the IGS Salon Gala.

Purpose: The IGS Outstanding Young Alumni Award shall be given by the UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies (IGS) to an alumnus/a of the Berkeley campus who has achieved distinction and prominence through professional achievements and/or public service that advance international, national, state, or community welfare. The award shall be given in recognition of achievements during the recipient's first 15 years after graduation. The recipient shall have a connection to the University and the Institute by through continued involved after graduation and should embody the mission of IGS to train and support leaders in public service and academic achievement.
