Matsui Center Congressional Internships

The Robert Matsui Center for Politics and Public Service at the Institute of Governmental Studies (IGS) is pleased to provide Matsui Center Congressional Internships

Each year the Matsui Center will award four scholarships at $2,000 each to UC Berkeley undergraduate students, choosing two applicants in both the fall and spring semesters. The Matsui Congressional Internship is meant to help students defray costs of the University of California Washington Center, and is open only to students already admitted to the University of California Washington Program.

The Application Process:

  • 1. Apply to UCDC program and if interested in working in Congress or the White House check necessary box.
  • 2. Fill out the Matsui Congressional Internship application (downloadable above).
  • 3. Attend any and all interviews requested by the UCDC and Matsui Center selection panels.
  • 4. If you are chosen you will be notified of the award at the same time that you are notified of your acceptance in to the UCDC program.

What we offer:
Besides providing interns with a scholarship to help defray costs of the overall program we are proud to offer additional programming in Washington D.C. Please see our prospectus for more information.

Congressional Government Internship

Congressional Interns live in Washington D.C. during the spring semester while participating in the U.C. Washington program.

Gricelda Gomez, a senior majoring in Business Administration, interned for Representative Grace Napolitano.
Amanda Kelsey Loh, a junior majoring in Legal Studies with a minor in Public Policy, interned for Senator Christopher Dodd.
Erin Pangilinan, a senior double majoring in Asian American Studies and Ethnic Studies, interned for Representative Zoe Lofgren.
Katerina Robinson, a junior double majoring in Political Science and Theater, interned for Representative Mike Honda.

This grant honors Robert Matsui, a graduate of UC Berkeley, who provided inspiration to many through his dedicated service in Congress. Matsui served 26 years as a representative for Sacramento and California's Fifth Congressional District.
