Stone & Youngberg California Local Executive-in-Residence Program
Mission
The Stone & Youngberg Local Executive-in-Residence is a program for California local
government chief administrators. The purpose of this program is to offer local executives an
opportunity to focus on problem solving in a first rate public affairs research environment. This
program brings to the Berkeley campus California's leading local practitioners to teach, study,
learn, write, and think about pressing issues that confront our communities. The goal of this
residency is to foster new thinking about improving local governance and to further the practice
of good government.
Selection Criteria
- Eligibility will be limited to local executives employed by a California city, county, or regional agency with substantial, sustained, and distinguished careers in local affairs.
- Participants must be willing to complete a three week residency at IGS and make
arrangements with their employers for release/vacation leave.
- Participants must submit a thoughtful, well-conceived prospectus describing their
intended research project.
- Participants must demonstrate the necessary intellectual qualifications to conduct an
intensive research project by past accomplishments such as publications, public speaking,
or leadership of professional organizations.
- Acceptable research projects must have as an objective one of the following: furthering
practitioner knowledge, improving local governance, enhancing good government, or
innovation in public administration.
