2016 Matsui Center Reception a Great Success!
On June 21, 2016, the Matsui Center hosted its annual Sacramento Reception, an event honoring students participating in the Matsui Center summer internship programs Cal-in-Sacramento and the Matsui Local Government Fellowship. This event is hosted every year in partnership with the Institute of Governmental Studies, the Cal Alumni Association, and the UC Berkeley Office of Government and Community Relations. It brings together current and former Matsui Center Fellows as well as Sacramento-area UC Berkeley alumni.
The Matsui Center was honored that a number of legislators were able to attend the Sacramento Reception this year, including Assemblymember Sebastian Ridley-Thomas, Assemblymember Ken Cooley and Assemblymember Richard Bloom, all of whom are hosting Cal-in-Sacramento fellows this summer, as well as Assemblymember Evan Low and Assemblymember Autumn Burke.
Assemblymember Cooley and Assemblymember Bloom, both UC Berkeley alumni, spoke to the packed room of current and former Cal students about the importance of public service and the unique educational and professional opportunities awarded to UC Berkeley students interested in a public service career.
