Apply Now for IGS Research Grants and Fellowships
IGS offers several awards and grants to recognize student achievement, and to foster ongoing student research at the highest levels. Applications for three of these programs are now being accepted through January 31.
Mike Synar Graduate Research Fellowship
This year, the Institute of Governmental Studies will award three Synar Graduate Research Fellowships of $3,000 each. The Mike Synar Graduate Research Fellowship is awarded to distinguished UC Berkeley graduate students who are writing their dissertations on an aspect of American politics, including comparative research across nations with the United States as a major case.
To be eligible, graduate students must have advanced to candidacy.

R. Kirk Underhill Graduate Research Fellowship
The R. Kirk Underhill Graduate Fellowship provides $30,000 to a UC Berkeley graduate student who has advanced to candidacy and whose research focuses on Anglo-American affairs.
The Underhill Fellowship is sponsored by the Anglo-American Studies Program at UC Berkeley's Institute of Governmental Studies.

Percy Undergraduate Research Grant
This year the Center for the Study of Representation will award four research grants of $500 each to U.C. Berkeley undergraduate students who are conducting research on an aspect of American politics, including public opinion, electoral behavior, civic participation, government institutions, social movements, and public policy. Students from a broad range of disciplines are encouraged to apply. The grant may be used to cover research expenses such as traveling to Washington, DC, to interview lawmakers; buying a dataset; or covering photocopying costs at an archive.
