How to Access the Institute of Governmental Studies in Philosophy Hall

CONSTRUCTION ADVISORY NOTICE:
PLEASE NOTE: The area around Philosophy Hall is undergoing major construction through January 2029 as part of UC Berkeley’s Electrified Heating and Cooling Projects. We no longer have access to the Moses Court Parking Lot, nor is there parking available along Eshleman Road.
In addition, several on-campus parking structures are currently closed or are under construction, which means parking and walking to Philosophy Hall may take up to 30 minutes. Please account for this additional time in your planning.

GETTING TO IGS

DURING THE CONSTRUCTION PERIOD, the best way to navigate to IGS is by using Anthony Hall as your destination. You can find the map coordinates here
Driving
In order to navigate around the construction, we encourage drivers to use the Anthony Hall address to navigate via GPS. This will take you to Philosophy Hall via Bancroft Way, which is the best route to access the closest parking options available. (See Parking Information for more details).
Rideshare
In order to arrive at the accessible walking path to the building, tell your rideshare to navigate to Anthony Hall. This will drop you off at the start of the Eschleman Road walking path. (see Building Accessibility for detailed instructions on the walking path). Follow the path past the construction site up through the old Moses Court Parking Lot to access the building. The front door will be on your left. This route is ADA accessible
Public Transit
Philosophy Hall is accessible using a wide variety of public transit options, including AC Transit and BART. Find specific resources for getting to campus at UC Berkeley’s Public Transit at a Glance page.

Here is a list of parking lots within a 10-minute walk of Philosophy Hall:

Sproul Lot (C Parking Permits only) - .01 miles (3 minutes’ walk)
- Bancroft Parking Structure (Public, C, F Permits) - 0.3 miles (6 minutes' walk)

Lower Sproul Parking Garage (Public, C, F Permits) - 0.3 miles (8 minutes’ walk)

Recreational Sports Facility (RSF) Parking Garage (Public, C, F Permits) - 0.4 miles (10 minutes’ walk)
Metered Street Parking is also available but limited depending on the time of day. We recommend parking on Bowditch Street between Channing Ave and Dwight Way (metered 8-hour street parking is available).
BUILDING ACCESSIBILITY
The accessible walking path to Philosophy Hall is via the Eschleman Road walking path. Walk up Eshleman Road from Barrow Lane and follow the temporary walking path past the construction site up through the old Moses Court Parking Lot, and you can access the building. This route is ADA accessible
If you are coming from South Drive, you may enter Philosophy Hall at that level (you must use stairs to get to the doors from street level) and come downstairs (via stairs or elevator) to the first floor where IGS is located.
