Former state senator Liz Figueroa was quoted in an LA Times article about why Democratic lawmakers are increasingly turning to state government positions. Figueroa is an instructor for the Cal-in-Sacramento program.

A Washington Post article about bias at election commissions nationwide cites a study co-authored by Berkeley political science graduate student David Broockman and Yale’s Daniel Butler. They had found that state legislators are less likely to respond to requests for information from people with black-sounding names.
