UCLA Latino Policy and Politics Institute report co-authored by IGS Co-Director G. Cristina Mora finds June 2025 ICE raids caused lasting economic harm to Latino small businesses in Los Angeles County

The UCLA Latino Policy and Politics Institute published a report co-authored by IGS Co-Director and UC Berkeley sociology professor G. Cristina Mora examining the economic impact of the June 2025 ICE enforcement surge on Latino-owned businesses across Los Angeles County. Pairing mobility data from 989 formal-sector businesses near nine enforcement sites with surveys and focus groups of 75 Latino entrepreneurs, the study found 46,000 fewer customer visits and an estimated $3.16 million in accumulated revenue losses within the first two weeks following enforcement activity. Nearly a year later, 95% of participating business owners continued to report financial stress, with fear, uncertainty, and sustained revenue decline also contributing to worsening physical and mental health outcomes.
