The IGS Salon Gala, our signature annual event, celebrates members of the Berkeley community and our continued status as an elite research center. This formal affair, hosted in San Francisco every spring, honors individuals with the Darius & Sarah Anderson Distinguished Service Award and the Bill & Patrice Brandt Alumni Leadership Award to recognize persons who have made a sustaining contribution to public affairs. All proceeds from the Salon Gala go to support IGS programs and students.
The 2017 Salon Gala featured Sen. Alan Simpson discussing the current state of American politics and the future of our national political life. Sen. Simpson, who served 18 years in the Senate representing Wyoming, remains one of America’s most astute political observers. Sen. Simpson appeared “In Conversation” with Tamara Keith, the White House Correspondent for National Public Radio and the host of the NPR Politics podcast. The 2017 Anderson Award was presented to Larry Baer, President and CEO of the San Francisco Giants. State Controller Betty T. Yee received the Brandt Award.
