Kalie Jimenez

Job title:
Class of 2027
Department:
2026 Washington Fellowship - Spring
Bio/CV:

Kalie is a first-generation Latinx student at UC Berkeley, majoring in Political Science and minoring in Public Policy. Born and raised in Northeast Los Angeles, she witnessed firsthand how immigrant communities are shaped by cultural and political life. Her grandfather, who migrated from Mexico at a young age, was an entrepreneur who achieved the “American Dream.” His experience was partnered with discrimination, economic hardship, and legal barriers. As the child of working-class parents, she understands the difficulty of navigating our complex legal system due to technological challenges and language barriers.

As a volunteer for Centro Legal De La Raza, a legal clinic in Oakland, she witnessed how these challenges are amplified for migrant workers. While volunteering, she connected her clients to community resources, including language, computer, and dance classes, addressing external factors that often go unnoticed.

In the summer of 2025, she served as a Legislative Intern for Congresswoman Linda T. Sanchez, representing the 38th Congressional District in Washington, D.C. As an intern, she was inspired to learn more about the impacts of U.S. trade policy on migration in Latin America, deepening her curiosity about the intersection of trade and immigration. Her dedication to public service inspires her interest in investigating how global trade policies can be transformed to respect sovereignty and workers’ rights.

Kalie is participating in the Spring ‘26 UCDC Program and interning for the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. She will support relationship management efforts with chamber members and leaders while researching regional business trends and assisting with national events. She looks forward to another season in D.C. and continuing the tradition of public service alongside lawmakers to prioritize a world of belonging and inclusivity.
