Michelle Romero is a scholar dedicated to serving her community. Her passion for policy and legislation sparked during the 2016 election after watching how mixed status families such as her own, were being discriminated against. Beyond immigration, she is deeply interested in women’s rights and safe, accessible education.

She is a firm believer that under-privileged voices should be uplifted. In her community college she promoted non-partisan student engagement in the polling booths and reformed the active shooter protocol; constantly advocating for student safety. At UC Berkeley she is a Regents and Chancellors, as well as Yardi scholar. Here, she collaborates with other students to bridge the gap within technological and humanitarian fields, working to find equitable solutions to modern problems with the goals of building a strong future for generations to come.

Being a first-generation student comes with barriers and limitations, by attending Democracy Camp in Berkeley Michelle hopes to take advatage of the unique space. Networking with students with similar goals and learning from public servants who work in different areas of government will give her insight into what she has to do to accomplish her career goals. in the hopes of using her knowlegde to be the voice of constituents who are often ignored.
