Syontoni Hattori-Chatterjee is a UC Berkeley and Sciences Po Paris Dual Degree Program student pursuing majors in Political Science and Politics & Government and minors in Geography and International Trade & Finance. She is passionate about empowering marginalized communities through education and civic engagement.
Syontoni worked for the social justice education and consulting firm Freedom Lifted for three years, where she led workshops for youth about police, prisons, and transformative justice and facilitated justice and equity training for colleges, nonprofits, and public libraries. She strives to build youth leadership and has developed political education curricula for youth of color with Chicago Freedom School and tutored girls in math, science, Spanish, and English as a United Nations Academic Impact Millennium Fellow.
Syontoni is an Early Career Fellow and Leadership Facilitator at UCLA’s Center for Developing Leadership in Science where she assists tribal Chairman Ryberg of the Siakumne with historiographical research. She is deeply interested in environmental justice and journalism, which she explored as former Head of Communications for Sciences Po Environnement Le Havre and co-Editor-in-Chief of Le Dragon Déchaîné and as a current news reporter for The Daily Californian.
Syontoni is proudly Bengali, Japanese, Canadian and American.
