William Lopez is a first-generation Mexican-American UC Berkeley student majoring in Political Science through the Honors program with a minor in Sustainable Design. As the son and grandson of immigrants, William’s work focuses on amplifying the voices of communities who have long been relegated to the margins of history.
William currently serves as Co-Executive Director to Berkeley’s Latine Pre-Law Society. Through LPLS, he has been able to provide professional and career readiness resources to students aspiring a profession in the legal field. In addition, he has served with the ASUC student government for three years, and is currently serving as a Senior Policy Advisor, helping craft and pass meaningful legislation to bring tangible change to campus and beyond.
As a lifelong learner, William is currently undertaking a research thesis through the Charles and Louise Travers Political Science Department Honors program. His research deals with insight into presidential power and the use of directives, like executive orders, onto the Bureaucracy, the extended Executive Branch, and the effect of presidential action on politics as a whole.
Apart from contributions on campus, William has dedicated his career thus far to local politics. Beginning with the City of West Sacramento as a Summer 2025 Intern, and Fall 2025 Intern to City Council member Lunaparra at the City of Berkeley. Emphasizing his devotion as a public servant, William has always sought to lead with the people he represents at the forefront of his commitment— recognizing everyone’s similar backgrounds but distinct experiences.
