Ysabela Yasmin Philip

Job title:
Class of 2027
Department:
2026 Cal-in-Sacramento
Bio/CV:

Ysabela is a third-year student majoring in Environmental Economics & Policy and Public Health. She is passionate about, environment, health and equity, and plans to pursue a career dedicated to public service.

In 2023, she co-founded University Housing Rights Organization, a student group dedicated to advocating for student health and safety in the on-campus residence halls. She served as Publicity Officer, and now serves as Officer of Legal Affairs. Through collaboration with Cal Housing administration, in 2025, she helped found the first ever Residential & Student Services Program Housing Operations Advisory Board, an institutional forum facilitating dialogue between students and staff about housing operations. She functions as the Deputy Director of the board.

In the community she calls home, Ventura County, Ysabela is involved in combating food insecurity. In the summer of 2025, she interned with Ventura County Public Health’s CalFresh Healthy Living team, promoting healthy eating habits among communities eligible for SNAP benefits. She currently works as a Harvest Leader for a non-profit called Food Forward, which coordinates volunteers to harvest produce from local farms and donates the produce to food banks, both eliminating food waste and expanding access to fresh foods among food insecure individuals.

Most recently, Ysabela was appointed to the City of Berkeley Parks, Recreation, & Waterfront Commission, representing District 7, and advising city council on pertinent issues.

Ysabela is looking forward to engaging with environmental law, policy, and regulation this summer, and is excited for what this next chapter with Cal-in-Sac will bring.
