Zella Carmichael-Price (they/she/any) is a pre-law student in her second year at UC Berkeley pursuing a double major in Psychology and Spanish, with a concentration in Hispanic Linguistics. In her free time, she is involved in various organizations, including QARC, CalACLU, Cal Ocean Society, and the ASUC, to provide resources to both on- and off-campus communities. She also enjoys volunteering at Openhouse in San Francisco, giving back to the queer and trans seniors who fought hard for the current rights of the LGBTQIA+ community.
Growing up in Northern California, the far-reaching and indiscriminate effects of environmental issues, such as the destructive Camp and Park wildfires and droughts on local agriculture, were utterly clear to Zella. She will apply her knowledge and experiences in Democracy Camp to communicate how environmental issues, although often made invisible in quotidian life, have far-reaching consequences in the life of the “ordinary person” and should be of great importance to all people across the aisle.
In the future, she will apply her studies at Berkeley in her career as an environmental or immigration lawyer. She aims to better understand how to create inclusion in the often inaccessible worlds of law and research and how to serve her communities as effectively and compassionately as possible. Through experiences with both her peers and public service officials in Democracy Camp, she hopes to learn optimal strategies for community building and engagement.
