At the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office of Public Engagement, they really emphasize advocacy. On my first day in City Hall I was asked to think about a problem that I see in the CIty of Los Angeles and figure out a way to fix it or make it better. Myself, along with the other interns, were asked to advocate for change in the City of Los Angeles, and the change could be in any area we felt necessary. So I brainstormed all day and came up with a project revolving around food insecurity in Los Angeles. I proposed a Press Conference and Kick-Off event promoting Summer Meal Programs and providing resources to Angelenos on the Mayor’s website. As I do more research I am becoming more familiar with the issue itself and I have learned that a lot of the resources and programs available are being underutilized.

I had only been in the office for two weeks and I am already in charge of my own project and am meeting with many stakeholders. I am so excited to see what the rest of the summer has in store for me!
