Lessons from a Summer of Public Service
As my summer is coming to an end and I reflect on my time in the Mayor's Office of Public Engagement, I can say that without a doubt I have grown over these past few months.
When I got here, I was asked to produce my own projects – meaning that I had to plan, organize, execute and make a sustainable project for the office. This helped me develop my management skills, improve my leadership abilities and advocate for my own ideas. The office definitely allowed me to take charge of my summer internship and create an experience like none other. This internship has prepared me for the transition into the workforce by giving me the opportunity to take charge of what I want to do and being an advocate for my ideas. As an intern, I have learned how to act on the idea that "If you don't see it, make it. If you don't like it, change it."
