Employer Matching

Matching gifts multiply the impact of your gift. Hundreds of companies currently match their employees’ gifts to UC Berkeley. Visit to see if your employer offers a matching gift program.

Planned Giving

Your legacy gift may enable you to make more significant support than you thought possible while at the same time allowing you to achieve your financial, philanthropic, and real estate planning goals. The experts at the University’s Office of Gift Planning would be pleased to discuss these gift vehicles with you. You can reach them at 510-642-6300 or ogp [at]

Memorial Gifts

A memorial gift can help perpetuate the values and ideals that guided someone’s life. Honorary gifts commemorate a significant event or someone who is still living. Such gifts can be made to the Friends of IGS fund for general support of the Institute's mission, or you may direct their support to specific purposes such as student support or awards.  The procedures for making such gifts are similar to those for cash, check, credit card, and securities as described above. Please be sure to identify the individual who is being honored with the gift.

Real Estate

Gifts of real property may be deeded to UC Berkeley to benefit IGS. Outright gifts of real estate are counted at their fair market value on the date of gift. The campus is responsible for negotiating gifts of real property with the donor and reviewing the property title and value.

Gifts-in-kind are items of tangible personal property such as art, books, computer equipment, and automobiles. They are donated for related educational purposes and are recorded at their fair market value.
