Kaiana Kotero is a third-year student at the University of California, Berkeley, double-majoring in Legal Studies and Psychology, with a focused academic and professional interest in sexual violence prevention, public safety, and institutional accountability. Her experience bridges legislative policy, legal services, and applied research addressing violence and security within government systems. As a Cal-in-Sacramento Fellow in the Office of California’s Fourth Senate District, Kaiana evaluated the Sexually Violent Predator Conditional Release Program, authored a published legislative policy memorandum, and proposed reforms to strengthen procedural safeguards and public protection. She served as a JusticeCorps litigant assistant at the Los Angeles County Superior Court, providing direct legal assistance to survivors and low-income litigants navigating family and civil law proceedings. On campus, Kaiana works as a Residential Assistant trained in crisis response and conflict de-escalation and as a consultant with Valley Consulting Group, where she has contributed to public-safety technology and policy-driven analysis.
