Rebecca Banos Conde

Job title:
Class of 2027
Department:
2025 Democracy Camp in Berkeley
Bio/CV:

Rebecca Banos Conde was born and raised in Inglewood, California as the daughter to an indigenous-Peruvian immigrant and single mother. She is a first-generation college student majoring in Political Economy with a minor in Public Policy. Throughout her upbringing, she’s experienced firsthand the resilience required to overcome legal support, healthcare, and education barriers. This has fostered and cemented Rebecca’s commitment to public service and connecting working-families to essential resources.

Rebecca is heavily involved with community organizations at the intersections of labor, immigration, and public service. She serves as a legal interpreter for immigrant and low-income families at the Justice and Diversity Center of the Bar Association of San Francisco and has organized alongside long-term care workers as a UCLA Labor Summer Fellow with SEIU 2015. She’s continued her advocacy work in local government through internships with Berkeley City Council, San Francisco County Transportation Authority (SFCTA), and now Congresswoman Lateefah Simon’s District Office. On campus, Rebecca also helps build spaces of belonging and political education through VOCES (Voices of Opportunity, Culture, Education, and Solidarity), an annual conference that connects East Bay youth with higher-education resources and Latine community leaders.

These roles have shaped her understanding of how law and policy can either reinforce or dismantle barriers for immigrant and working-class communities. She hopes to pursue a career in labor law and public policy, advancing stronger protections for immigrant women and working families.
