Estefani Carrasco is a Oaxacan first-generation student at UC Berkeley, majoring in Sociology and Legal Studies. Born and raised in North County San Diego, she has lived experiences within the Oaxacan diaspora that have shaped her commitment to advocating for historically marginalized communities while advancing visibility and empowerment.
Estefani is passionate about community organizing, advocacy, and research, which has guided her involvement both in the Bay Area and at Berkeley. She has supported immigrants, asylum-seekers, and survivors of domestic violence through her involvement with Bay Area Legal Aid, the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, CHIRLA, and East Bay Sanctuary Covenant. As a research mentee with UC Berkeley’s Social Science Research Pathways program, she continues to expand her understanding of the immigration system by assisting in the analysis of immigration court decisions to examine how gender and bureaucracy shape asylum adjudication.
Proud of her Oaxacan identity and community, Estefani is dedicated to pursuing a career that advocates for historically excluded communities in the legal and political spaces. She hopes to continue advocating for her community while honoring her parents' resilience.
