Brandon Maskey

Job title:
Class of 2027
Department:
2026 Cal-in-Sacramento
Bio/CV:

Brandon Maskey is a second generation Nepali-Chinese American at UC Berkeley studying Political Science with a minor in City & Regional Planning and Public Policy. Growing up in an immigrant household across the Bay Area, Brandon understood homeownership as a fundamental opportunity for upward mobility and building community.

Through his transfer experiences at Diablo Valley College, where he concurrently served as their Associated Students’ Vice President of Legislative Affairs and region-wide Legislative Affairs Director for the Student Senate for California Community Colleges, Brandon found a passion channeling his parents’ and communities’ stories of housing insecurities as a means for legislative change. He has advocated in Sacramento and Washington D.C. for policies designed to streamline the development of affordable housing for students and working families.

On campus, Brandon currently enjoys volunteering as an Associate for the Transfer & Non-Traditional Students Department under the ASUC Office of the President, a Legislative Associate for the ASUC Transfer Representative, and Philanthropy Coordinator for the Anchor House Association. These on-campus experiences deepened their passion for the transfer community and acknowledgment for more inclusive, transfer-specific housing. Following his time at UC Berkeley, Brandon hopes to continue his studies in public policy, allowing him to find solutions targeting the root causes of California’s housing crisis.

In his free time, Brandon loves spending time hiking with his transfer family and being “Faithful to the Bay” rooting for the San Francisco 49ers, Golden State Warriors, & San Francisco Giants. As a Cal-in-Sacramento fellow, Brandon hopes to research and develop legislation designed to mitigate housing inequalities, promoting a stronger quality of life for immigrant communities like his across California.
