Declan Chin is a third-year undergraduate studying Economics and Data Science at UC Berkeley. He currently works as a research assistant to Professor Bruce Fuller in the Graduate School of Education; the team is researching pre-K quality distribution in New York City. He also works at CalPerformances as an Usher Captain.
Declan grew up in South Pasadena, CA in a family of eight. In high school, his participation in his local Youth and Government delegation cultivated his interest in government, politics, and social activism. Some of the issues he is most passionate about include education, healthcare, economic inequality and each of their intersections with race/gender. His coursework along with past experiences working in LAUSD’s Early Education Department, the Berkeley Early Childhood Education Program, and volunteering at Huntington Hospital have helped foster these interests.
Declan wants to synthesize the skills acquired throughout his education to be a part of the movement to bring data-driven solutions to the most pressing issues in local government and the public sector at large. He plans to begin working toward this goal by interning for the Innovation Team in the Mayor of LA’s Office of Budget and Information.
