Jenny Rocha is a first-generation student, majoring in Legal Studies and minoring in Food Systems. Born and raised in Santa Cruz, California, she is the eldest daughter of immigrants from Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico.
Growing up, she witnessed the hardships that her family and friends experienced due to their immigration status. In 2019, she started working with United We Dream, a youth led immigrant rights organization. Through this work, she discovered her passion for public service and gained an interest in immigration law. She is particularly interested in the intersections of immigration, labor, environmental justice, and food justice.
On campus, she serves as the Director of Finance and Resources for the club Inside the Living Room. During her time in ILR, she has had the opportunity to volunteer at the East Bay Sanctuary Covenant, which offers low cost legal services to the immigrant community in the East Bay. She has gotten to tutor ESL students studying for the citizenship test, as well as support the DACA department with putting DACA renewal applications together. As a Cal-in-Sac fellow, Jenny looks forward to learning more about how policy can have a positive impact on underrepresented communities.
