Jesse Alarcon is a third-year student at the University of California, Berkeley double majoring in Legal Studies and Political Science. Passionate about social justice and civic engagement, Jesse has extensive experience working directly with underserved families in providing resources and analyzing public policies affecting these communities. This includes human rights organizations like Coalition of Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA) and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) as well as governmental bodies like the Embassy of Mexico and U.S. Congressional Offices. As community leader at CHIRLA, Jesse's testimony conveyed the hard-fought battle for immigrant rights in the United States and the importance of civic engagement among Latino communities throughout the nation. As a Federal Policy Intern at California’s 46th Congressional District Office, his attention to detail focused on working closely with staff and constituents, ensuring they were connected with the appropriate federal agency. In Washington, D.C., Jesse seeks to continue his learning on constitutional mechanisms for social justice by getting involved with human rights organizations like the ACLU and law-related federal agencies like the United States Supreme Court. He is committed to bringing his experiences and skills to future internships to effectively showcase his work ethic as a leader seeking to be a part of the much-needed nationwide reforms.
