Jonathan Gutierrez-Lomelí is a first-generation Mexican-American from Long Beach, California. As the son of immigrant parents, Jonathan faced early on the trials and tribulations of community violence, machismo culture, and financial hardships. Because of his upbringing, he desires to become a beacon of representation for the Latino community in a white dominated political arena.

On campus, Jonathan is an HSF Scholar and a proud Hermano of La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Incorporated. In developing his professional character, he has worked on Congressional campaigns for the States of South Carolina and Illinois. Through policy research, his campaign experiences aimed to support human and worker rights.

Following his advocacy for the Latino community, Jonathan has worked as a Legislative Intern for the United States House of Representatives. He has worked to provide frontline constituent services to one of the most multicultural cities in the world, the great city of Chicago. As an Alumni of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, Jonathan has been publicly recognized for his leadership by Congressman Jesús “Chuy” García (IL-04) and has had the privilege to meet both the President and Vice-President of the United States of America.

After completing his B.A. in Legal Studies, Jonathan plans to work toward a Juris Doctorate in International and Space Law. His career goal is to work as a space lawyer for the United Nations. Jonathan has always pushed himself to achieve his goals, aiming to make his family and community proud––from his hometown and beyond.
