As a first generation student, Luis majored in Political Science at the University of California Berkeley. Raised in the small City of Vista, he was exposed to the every day struggles immigrant families faces in southern California, from unfair treatment by the justice system to blocked access to basic social programs. This put him on a career path in Law and is planning to attend law school after he graduates spring 2023. Eager to involve himself in the law field, Luis participated in the A.I.M Program at the California Western School of Law in San Diego while he attended community college. The Program exposed him to the workings of a court room, mentorship by senior law students and professors, and practice in developing case briefs. For the 2023 spring semester Luis will be traveling to Washington DC to participate in the UCDC internship program, where he plans to increase his exposure to the fields of law and public policy.
