Mohammad Mustafa Nasrat is a fourth-year student, majoring in Political Science with double minors in Public Policy and Persian Language and Culture. His regional expertise focuses on the Middle East, Central Asia, and the broader Eurasian region, with particular interest in states that emerged following the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Academically, his concentration lies at the intersection of American politics, foreign policy, national security, and emerging technologies.

Prior to and during his time at UC Berkeley, Mohammad Mustafa has held various positions across both the public and private sectors, including roles as a data analyst, research assistant, and instructor. He is the co-founder and co-facilitator of “The Evolution of American National Security Strategies, a student-led course at the Goldman School of Public Policy, which examines U.S. foreign and national security policy through comparative regional case studies. For his commitment to teaching, he was awarded the Koshland Excellence in Teaching Award in Spring 2025.

He also serves as the Secretary of the Alexander Hamilton Society’s Berkeley Chapter, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing education and dialogue on foreign and national security policy, and as Executive Secretary for Mortar Board College Honor Society, a national honor society composed of top-performing seniors distinguished by academic merit, leadership, and service. In Fall 2025, he was selected as a General James H. Doolittle Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley, a highly selective national security fellowship dedicated to cultivating advanced expertise and leadership in defense strategy, military affairs, and national security policy.

In Spring 2026, Mohammad Mustafa will participate in the UCDC program while serving as a congressional intern in the office of Representative Zachary Nunn (IA-03). In this role, he looks forward to supporting constituents in Iowa’s Third Congressional District, contributing to legislative research and policy development, and gaining firsthand experience with the legislative process. He aspires to pursue a career at the intersection of national security and technology, with a focus on policy-relevant innovation and strategic governance.
