Sabrina Avenido (She/her)
Growing up helping her mother's small business cleaning operation rooms in between patients and taking her grandmother's blood sugar each morning before school, Sabrina has always embodied passion for healing her community. The famous saying, "No history, no self. Know history, know self.", motivated her to major in Asian American and Asian Diaspora Studies and minor in Public Policy as a first-generation Pinay American student at UC Berkeley to understand the history and evolving needs of her community.
Throughout her studies, she has compiled familial oral histories, researched immigration and healthcare policies affecting Filipino/a/x American nurses, and co-authored a policy memo on higher education affordability addressing inequities in California's K-12 system. She believes that knowledge is power, centering her academic and professional endeavors on bringing that power back to communities of color.
Sabrina is eager to bring her experience as a former intern for the Mayor of South San Francisco and current Pilipinx American Hxstory and Politics Chair for Pilipinx American Alliance to the 2025 Cal-in-Sacramento Fellowship. She aims to deepen her understanding of the intersections of race, ethnicity, and health and explore how policy can advocate for justice and promote ethnic studies in education at all levels.
