Student Assistant II

Pay: $18.25/hour, approximately 8 hours per week
Job Description:
The Institute of Governmental Studies is searching for a detail-oriented and technically-proficient student assistant to support the audio-visual elements of our events and programs. The Events and AV Assistant reports to the IGS Event and Communications Coordinator. This position provides event support for our classes, lectures, major events, seminars, socials, and workshops. Responsibilities include: the set-up, maintenance, and use of microphones, sound systems, projectors, digital recording equipment, and video-conferencing platforms for in-person, hybrid, and virtual programs. The Assistant must be able to work independently with a high degree of professionalism and minimal oversight.
Responsibilities:
- Set-up, monitor, and troubleshoot audiovisual equipment and systems for our weekly seminars, classes, and student-facing programs
- Assist the Purchasing and Admin Coordinator with keeping the Matsui Center, clean, organized, and open to the student body and general public.
- Assist the Events and Communications Coordinator with tracking events-related tasks and keeping internal documentation accurate and up-to-date on a weekly basis.
- Track event registration, attendance, and related metrics for end-of-semester reports.
- Support major events and programs by setting up food, beverages, AV equipment, furniture, and assisting clean-up and break down of the event.
- Other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

A background in supporting the technical aspects of events and video production.

Knowledge and Skills

The ability to work independently, multi-task, and prioritize objectives to meet deadlines are required.

Strong spoken and written communication skills in English are required.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and similar applications is required.

Experience setting up and operating basic audiovisual equipment such as microphones, mixers, projectors, and connecting cables is highly preferred.

Experience with video conferencing and livestream software is preferred.

Experience using a DSLR Camera to capture photos and videos is preferred.

Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and/or similar platforms for photography, videography, and/or video editing is preferred.

Job experience in an office environment is preferred.
