Annie Byrd

Job title:
Class of 2027
Department:
2026 Democracy Camp in DC
Bio/CV:

Annie is an undergraduate student majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies, with concentrations in Ethnic Studies, Sociology, and Political Science. Her political interests focus on the structural, historical, and legal foundations of U.S. governance and public policy. The opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. serves as a practical extension of her studies, offering direct engagement with federal institutions and policymaking processes.

As an African American, a Filipina American, and a first-generation college student, Annie’s sociological and political interests pertain to how U.S. laws and policies have historically shaped—and continue to shape—communities affected by systemic inequality. Her scholarship emphasizes institutional accountability, policy outcomes, and the role of government in addressing long-standing disparities.

Annie plans to pursue a Juris Doctor degree to analyze and contribute to policy development, implementation, and reform at the federal level. Her primary interests include reparative justice related to the transatlantic slave trade, the domestic and international consequences of U.S. imperialism, and the political and economic stabilization of nations impacted by U.S. policy. She also maintains a focused academic interest in Philippine–American relations and the intersections of Black and Asian diasporas within the United States.
