Abril Perez (she/her/ella) is a third-year History major at UC Berkeley and a first-generation student from Richmond, California. Raised in a low-income, immigrant household, Abril’s early experiences navigating structural inequity shaped her commitment to public service, education, and justice-centered leadership.
At UC Berkeley, Abril serves as a mentor with the NAVCAL Fellowship, supporting first-generation, transfer, and nontraditional students, many from POC and immigrant communities, as they navigate higher education and the “hidden curriculum” of elite institutions. Through workshops, one-on-one mentorship, and peer-led programming, she helps students access resources, build confidence, and transform shared challenges into collective strength. She is also involved with the Latine Pre-Law Society, where she supports Latinx students pursuing legal careers through professional development and community-building efforts.
Beyond campus, Abril has remained deeply connected to her hometown through her work with Richmond Promise, where she previously served as a Campus Network Leader supporting Berkeley students from Richmond. She also works as an undergraduate legal intern at Berkeley Law’s Criminal Law & Justice Center, where she engages with issues at the intersection of law, policy, and community impact.
Abril plans to pursue a career in public policy or law, with a focus on advancing equity for marginalized communities. She remains committed to demonstrating unwavering dedication to supporting others through advocacy, leadership, and community-centered change.
