Melanie Urbina (she/her)

Melanie Urbina is a fourth-year student from Los Angeles majoring in Global Studies with a concentration in global development and minoring in public policy and human rights. Her academic and professional experiences reflect her commitment to uplifting and empowering communities and advocating for systemic change. Her passion lies in working toward a world where everyone, regardless of background, has access to justice and equal opportunities. On campus, she is a co-founder and director of the Global Studies Student Association, and Co-Director of Professional Development for Central Americans for Empowerment (CAFE). Beyond, she’s involved at Legal Services for Prisoners with Children, where she has worked on campaigns like Proposition 6, which sought to end forced labor in California prisons, while also connecting directly with incarcerated individuals to provide support and amplify their voices. Melanie aspires to continue her work in public service by pursuing a legal career, combining her interests in development, human rights, and policy to create transformative change.
