Rebecca Banos Conde is a first-generation Peruvian-American with an intended major in Political Economy and a minor in Public Policy. Raised in Inglewood, California, neighboring the city of Los Angeles, and as the daughter of an undocumented, single mother, she witnessed firsthand the resilience required to overcome barriers to education, healthcare, and legal support. These experiences cemented her commitment for advocating for gender equity, community development, and access to critical resources for underserved populations.
Rebecca’s journey began at Los Angeles-based Saint Margaret’s Center, where she connected low-income, undocumented families to essential resources. This early experience fostered Rebecca’s passion for public service, leading to her roles as a legal interpreter for the Justice and Diversity Center and as a medical interpreter at Volunteer Health Interpreters Organization.
On campus, Rebecca has become involved with the Berkeley community through the ASUC, Latine Conference, and Residence Hall Association. Through these roles, Rebecca has organized impactful events, collaborated with diverse student organizations, and supported legislative efforts for racial justice and equity. Currently, Rebecca also serves as a Public Outreach and Engagement Intern at the San Francisco County Transport Authority and as a Legislative Intern for the City of Berkeley. Both are positions where she applies her skills in policy analysis, community organizing, and public engagement to continue her advocacy work.
