- David M. Howard Memorial Prize in American Politics — Awarded annually to one Ph.D. candidate (ABD) engaged in research on public policy, political behavior, or public opinion in the U.S. broadly understood.
- Mike Synar Graduate Research Fellowship — Awarded annually to three Ph.D. students writing dissertations on an aspect of American politics.
- American Politics Reading Group — Meets weekly in the Harris Conference Room (119 Philosophy Hall) to discuss recently published journal articles on topics related to American politics.
- American Political History Seminar (APHS) — Meets several times during the fall and spring semesters. Scholars and journalists are invited to speak on a recent publication related to American political history.
- Race, Ethnicity and Immigration Colloquium (REI) — Meets several times during the fall and spring semesters. Speakers from the Berkeley campus and other institutions are invited to share research touching on various aspects of race, ethnicity, and immigration.
- Research Workshop in American Politics — Meets weekly and covers a broad range of topics in American politics. Faculty and graduate students are invited to share their in-progress research in an informal setting.
