Proponents believe Proposition 68 will ensure future drinking water quality and supplies, and provide for park restoration. They contend that the measure will restore drought depleted groundwater supplies, recycle water locally, and capture more storm water and prevent flooding. They claim that drinking water has been contaminated in recent years due to natural disasters and drought. They claim the proposition has bipartisan support and will have public health benefits.

Opponents claim the measure is misleading and will only provide $1.3 billion to improve parks. They say the funds are spread unevenly across the state. They also claim the measure leaves a large amount of money for politicians pet projects not related to parks and water restoration. They also say the Department of Parks and Recreation, which would administer the policies detailed by the measure, is an untrustworthy department with a history of squandering money and hiding it from the public. |
